The management and ownership are greedy and don’t care about residents or their vehicles. They recently decided to make half of the downstairs parking reserved and didn’t even bother to put proper signage to mark the spaces. All they have is unclear markings painted on the floor that you won’t see when you pull into the spot and are not visible at all if there is rain or debris. The towing company they contract is unprofessional so they will drag your car and cause damages then threaten you when you confront them. Included are pictures of reserved spaces where you can’t even see the markings on the ground as well as drag marks from improper towing methods. Also included is the clerk of A-1 towing threatening me with a rock once I voiced concerns about my vehicle damage. Predatory behavior targeting residents all to fill the pockets of the management and tow company at the expense of residents.
I initially liked this apartment complex. They maintain the building fairly well, the location is great, the staff are friendly, and the prices, at the time I began my lease, were very fair for the area and building quality. There are some significant issues, and the benefits are no longer outweighing them.
Edit: Thank you to management for enlightening me on VA building codes requiring heat availability until May 1st.
One issue I still have is the decision to charge for parking.
Edit: This building has started to get dirtier. Stairwells are littered with cigarette butts, beer bottles, clothing, wrappers, hair, etc. I've seen the same mess sit in a stairwell for a couple of weeks at a time.
Edit: There are an increasing amount of roaches in the late summer months (I can’t exactly fault the building, but there are many tenants that do not have the same standard of cleanliness). There are people who smoke cigarettes in the stairs, especially on rainy days and one individual is free-basing hard drugs in the stairwells (mainly the 3rd floor). Since there are only cameras outside the building, in the gym and near the lobby, anything happening in hallways and stairwells goes unnoticed and unpunished. Management sends out ineffective email reminders to try to remedy these issues. They need more cameras.
Edit: Picture of drug-user’s tin foil used to smoke now included in review. The building stairwell has door knobs falling off of doors on multiple floors. They hardly remedy this issue. I’m pretty sure this is a serious fire safety issue if people cannot get out of the stairwell during a fire…
Ownership/management seems to be in financial trouble as some basics aren't getting done. Elevators are continuously out of order, the really poor "gym" is missing equipment that would be cheap to replace, despite multiple requests . There's a bit of a nasty attitude from the main front desk woman and the office folks.
As others have noted in their reviews, they're now charging for parking, for purely profit-based reasons, when there is plenty of parking available for residents. There's no need for what they're doing, other than greed. And heaven help you if you get towed; A1 Towing has a seriously awful reputation, and they've been investigated and fined by the VA AG for their awful business practices. They wrecked the rear brakes on my car towing it, just destroyed them.
The stench of urine, cigarettes and booze in the stairwells is a weekly occurrence too. And since one or more elevators are almost always out of order, you have to use them.
Overall, it's clear that management does not understand that they're in the business of sales and customer service.
This was a good place to live when the previous company owned it. Since it changed hands about a year ago, it's really gone downhill. It went from being owned by a Virginia based company, to a NY based company, and that change is very obvious.
I have lived in this complex for many years and have enjoyed the experience. Throughout much of that time, the maintenance team, in particular Amilcar, the maintenance manager, has been extremely nice, professional, accurate and always willing to help a tenant out. This has been extremely helpful to me as my mobility is somewhat limited. Another shout out I wish to give is to Toffy (sp.), another maintenance employee who has been very kind and helpful to me in the last year.
Amilcar did a fabulous job repairing my shower tub (which wasn't draining properly) and my thermostat! Excellent, speedy service. Thank you very much!
To make a long story short if i could leave zero stars i would. The leasing consultant Elshadai is rude. I wish property management companies understood first interaction is everything. If you're having a bad day stay at home or pass the tour to someone else. Knowing the she is the ONLY leasing person as i was told made me completely pass on the whole apartment. Save your time and money and tour else where.
Came here to close on an apartment leasing and I needed to check out the property. I had a confirmed appointment made by email and text message. However, when I got here an elder lady name Rotona told me that was a mistake: nobody was there to show me the flat. She took 15 min to open the main door for me and she was very rude (kept repeating the same sentence over and over in a monotone, lazy voice - she looks tired of this job). She blamed on the AI called "Lucas". Just sad... keep distance.
The Dominion Plaza team is a wonderful team. The environment is clean and very welcoming. The leasing agent that I talked to (Elshadai)was very professional yet friendly. She gave me a wonderful tour and gave me all the details I needed to know. Best experience I’ve had with finding a place to live in.
